IFR CIGs are expected to return for Tuesday evening as winds begin to reduce. Winds will be light through the night but become more moderate for the afternoon. IFR through the mid to late morning morning. Lower clouds look to begin fill around the SF Bay in the late evening, leading to another night of MVFR. Expect moderate to breezy winds through the rest of the TAF period. These lowered CIGs will linger through the late morning, but VFR will return in the afternoon with passing mid-level clouds. Becoming MVFR around the SF Bay into the late night with moderate westerly winds. Low clouds fill the bays and move inland Tuesday night, offering another batch of MVFR/IFR CIGs and patchy fog. VFR returns with mid clouds in the mid to late morning with wind becoming moderate to breezy into the afternoon. Winds will be light to moderate through the morning. IFR/MVFR CIGs will form for all but the more interior terminals, and look to last into the mid to late morning. Expect a mix of mid and low clouds to build through the night. As a result, may see temps increase a bit above normal in the interior, but still rather seasonable. The heatup for the interior is not looking as strong with recent model runs, as the ridge projected to form over the central CONUS flattens before moving west. No significant change in temperatures until Thursday through the weekend, as the trough begins to weaken and mid- level heights begin to rise. Should see some clearing of clouds in the afternoon as well with some slightly drier air moving in. Area webcams also show a low cloud layer moving over SF Bay, but fireworks are still visible in the vicinity, so clouds shouldn't put a damper on the night's festivities.įor tomorrow (and next few days), we still will be influenced by the upper level trough centered just off the coast, meaning temperatures will be remaining below normal. The cloud decks this afternoon and evening were mainly in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere, but now seeing low marine stratus forming along the coast and progressing inland around Monterey Bay. The other main weather feature for today has been the clouds, with social media brimming with images of wavy cloud patterns. Hi- res models support the chance for light precip overnight, mainly along the coast, and so does the official forecast. Only one station along the Sonoma coast is showing a bucket tip in the last hour, but there is the possibility for some very light rain or drizzle overnight into Tuesday morning as a weak cold front moves through the area. KMUX Radar is currently in precip mode but echoes are very faint or nonexistent. Generally spotty readings of a few hundredths of an inch, up to a tenth in Sonoma County. Steady moisture flux and surface low pressure off the NorCal coast helped bring measurable precip to coastal North Bay and areas to the north today. This is just below the max moving average of 1.37 in., as per sounding climatology. KOAK's evening sounding shows a moist profile throughout the lower- and mid- levels, with total PW at 1.36 in. This added moisture is also helping keep temperatures elevated in the 60s and 70s, several degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. dew points in the upper 50s to low 60s around the area. It's certainly a muggy evening by Cali standards. Warming and drying trend begins after today with a return to near normal conditions by the upcoming weekend.ĭISCUSSION.
